Annie Poon is an independent animator and art critic working in Manhattan. Inspiration comes from music videos, illustration, and televison. Her first collection of animated shorts is called "The Paper Theater" Annie is also part of an experimental sound collective called "Grey Day Eggs." She received a BFA in Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts.
Check back here for exciting news about a brand new DVD release of Sis. Poon's short film collection: "The Paper Theater." The collection features six of her unique paper-based stop-motion animated shorts, many of which have been screened at prestigious film and art festivals:
- The Roly-Poly Pudding
- 'Tis the Night of Halloween
- Christmas Tree
- Subway Story
- Runaway Bathtub
- Paper Doll
I highly recommend this DVD to anybody looking for something artistic and different, or anybody looking for something entertaining for kids, or both. Annie's animated films are rarities in the way that they are interesting for adults, and worth repeated viewings, but children find them engrossing as well.
Except maybe "Paper Doll"... which may be a bit too "out there" for kids, but I've found it is one of the favorites -- or the favorite -- among most adults. Not that kids can't watch it... It's just not one they appreciate or like as much as the others.
"Paper Theater" can not yet be ordered from LDS Video, but drop us a line if you would like to be notified when it is available.
